Silverfos 280 is a silver-copper-phosphor brazing alloy with excellent glide characteristics. It can be used to join copper with copper-based alloys (e.g. bronzes/ brass). The phosphorus contained in the alloy acts as a melting agent, so no additional flux is required during copper-to-copper brazing; however, when copper-based materials (e.g. bronzes/brass) are combined, a suitable deoxidizer should be used. Silverfos 280 should not be used on ferrous or nickel alloys, or alloys containing more than 10% nickel, due to the formation of brittle intermetallic compounds that will cause the joint to break. Corrosion resistance is generally satisfactory, except when the joint is in contact with sulphurous atmospheres (especially at high temperatures), the alloy should therefore not be used to join parts that may come into contact with fluids containing sulphur. Typical applications are in hydraulics, electrical and electromechanical industry, refrigeration and air conditioning.
